Comfortable Classics

What is Comfortable Classics?

Comfortable Classics is a growing collection of public-domain classics published under one imprint: novels, epics, plays, fairy tales, philosophy, science, and history. Every volume shares one series design; only the title lettering changes from book to book.

Which books are in the series?

Every title is listed below and in the Library, grouped into six collections.

Ideas, History & Lives

Epic, Myth, Poetry & Drama

Fairy Tales & Fantasy

Adventure & Voyages

Great Novels

Gothic, Horror & the Uncanny

Are the books unabridged?

Most are. Every novel, play, poem, and other single work in the series is unabridged: the complete text, not a shortened version, and its page is marked “Unabridged.” A few volumes are collections or selections, such as the fairy tales and the short-story volumes, and are not marked that way.

Why buy a print copy when the ebook is free?

Free ebooks are a wonderful way to read the classics, and we’re glad they exist. A printed copy does something different: it lives on the shelf, where children can find it and pick it up, and it can be underlined, marked up, and handed down with your notes still in the margins. Some stories deserve that kind of presence in the home.

Where can I buy the books?

The books are available on Amazon. This site does not sell anything. Each book's page here has a “View on Amazon” button that goes straight to that book's Amazon listing.

How do I find the right edition on Amazon?

Each book links directly to its Comfortable Classics edition on Amazon, so you'll always find the right one.

What does “Literary Legacy Library” mean?

It is the purpose behind the series: classics meant to be kept, studied, and handed down, so that a shelf of them becomes a lasting personal library.
